Noriaki is a successful gallery artist living with his "roommate" on Florida's Gulf Coast (I think the Tampa Bay area, specifically Bradenton, FL). They have a small bungalow near the water, Perfect for them, their office/studios, Jotaro's fish tanks, and Jolyne when she comes from her mother's during the holidays or for summer break. Jotaro is definitely a boat guy they have theirs parked on the side of the house and take it for a spin over at least once a month (or once a week when Jolyne is with them over the summer)
He still does missions for the SWF with Jotaro, but his day job is his art. He works in an abstract/contemporary style and his pieces are large and textural. Jotaro doesn't really get it but still supports his partner, Jolyne loves them though.
Also, he and Jotaro have matching wedding rings: platinum bands with emerald Inserts.

I stayed up hours later than usual with the femslash TOS!Spirk fic, finishing up S'paak and Jessica's first meeting! So I had fun writing a scene in which S'paak makes a number of objective empirical observations and is 100% logical:
San Francisco was no Shi’Kahr, of course, but it was often sunny, and the day of the Enterprise’s command transfer proved no different. As she followed Captain Pike and Number One from their appointed meeting place at headquarters towards a crowd gathered near the ship, S’paak could feel the clear, light warmth of Sol on her skin. A pleasant sensation, to be sure, all the more in conjunction with the lavishly oxygenated air of Earth and the olfactory evidence of its abundant plant life. A eucalyptus tree must be nearby. She focused her attention on the crowd, which included randomly selected members of the crew, but also three small human boys attached to two strangers, a man and a woman. The man carried one of the children, while the other two held the hands of the unknown woman. They stood near several full admirals among other, more unfamiliar, Starfleet officers of lesser rank. And one of the admirals, a man whom S’paak quickly recognized as Admiral Jilani, was talking to a young woman in the green-gold of command—a woman whom a logical process of elimination indicated could only be Captain Kirk herself. As a result of the conversation with Jilani, Kirk had turned herself somewhat away from Pike’s party, only part of her profile visible, and that from a distance. Now and then, others from the crowd passed by and obscured her altogether, making observation more difficult. S’paak could see that the captain was rather pale, but with a warmer tone to her skin than S’paak’s or even Amanda’s. And like most other women already on the Enterprise, Captain Kirk’s hair was pragmatically pinned up on the back of her head. S’paak had found it a duller color in the captain’s small personnel photograph, only just blonde rather than brown, but in the full light of her native star, it was a surprising rich gold. Little else about her could be observable at this range, except that Kirk had very correct posture and had locked her hands behind her back as she spoke with Admiral Jilani.
Captain Pike paused for a moment, taking in the crowd, then continued walking forwards with Number One and S’paak close behind him. Multiple members of the other party now noticed them, waving their hands and calling out in a manner that would have been wildly disrespectful on Vulcan. S’paak had long since learned that humans meant no more than friendly welcome by it, often admiring in its own way, though she couldn’t imagine conducting herself in that fashion. Even her mother did not. In any case, the woman S’paak presumed to be Captain Kirk did not join the flamboyant gestures, though she turned in their direction and strode forward with the admirals.
As they drew near, S’paak could see that Captain Kirk’s height must be several inches below below her own, though she was not remarkably short. S’paak had not anticipated that from the paragon described to her. Otherwise, the captain looked strong enough by the standards of full-blooded humans, and no doubt was. The visible slope of her legs from hemline to boots was smoothly muscled, and the solid set of her shoulders and shape of her arms did suggest a woman as youthful and athletic as described.
But her strength must be of an entirely different form than S’paak’s, even apart from the differences of species. S’paak had always been lean, a woman of hard lines and prominent bones. Captain Kirk, though, was soft—at least, softer than expected, particularly along the pronounced curves of her hips and breast. Given the standard Starfleet uniform that she wore, there could be little probability of error. The open circular collar and impractically short skirts of their uniforms did not leave much to guesswork.
By the time they arrived, S’paak had politely lifted her gaze to Captain Kirk’s face, curious about the demeanor of the woman who would command her. The captain’s face surprised her almost as much as Kirk’s entirely normative height and build, but for a different reason: she was pretty. Not that this had any bearing on her capabilities as S’paak’s commanding officer, of course, but S’paak hadn’t imagined that the face of a decorated captain described as a brutal combatant would be quite so aesthetically pleasing.
“Chris!” said an admiral S’paak didn’t recognize, smiling and clapping Pike on the shoulder. “It’s good to see you. I don’t think you’ve met Jessica Kirk yet?”
“I haven’t had that honor,” Captain Pike said cheerfully.
Captain Kirk laughed. In a clear, mid-range voice, she said, “The honor’s all mine, fleet captain.”
“It’s Chris,” said Captain Pike, reaching out a hand without hesitation.
Captain Kirk shook it without reservation or appearance of uncommon attachment. S’paak reminded herself that this, too, was typical behavior.
“Jess,” she replied.
Once his hand was free, Pike gestured at the gleaming Enterprise. “The refits should be done. What do you think of your ship, Jess?”
Captain Kirk turned, one hand shielding her eyes. In a softer voice, she said,
“She’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.”

I honestly feel a lot better about having posted anything at AO3, even things I won't finish, and there's something that warms my heart about posting fic for The Borgias in 2024.
I was actually deciding between two different WIPs to represent that "phase" between my undergrad years and grad school. The other one was the prologue to a Legend of Korra/Star Wars fusion in which Noatak/Amon is Korra's father and this is revealed in S1 (I think it was going to be Tarrlok who figures it out first, lol) and it actually affects the plot and it isn't just the LOK canon plot with minor adjustments—the fusion with SW was meant to be more than vague I-am-your-father inspiration. In any case, I only ever wrote the prologue about the Noatak/Senna quasi-romance that led to Korra's existence and never even got to the sheer comedy of Korra as Tarrlok's niece :(
But the Juan and Lucrezia as dysfunctional twins one-shot is closer to being a whole fic (in a side-story way) and I did like being able to add one more to my Borgias oeuvre—and getting at least some part of that AU on AO3 after all the time I spent on it!
#anghraine babbles#fic talk#i don't think senna actually ends up with tonraq in the au so there's no easy I Have A Real Dad option#and korra grows up knowing that her parents spent a genuinely wonderful year together before a ship he was in tragically sank#(this is not actually noatak's fault - he'd actually disembarked and chosen to disappear before the shipwreck happened#and just appreciated the convenience of it effectively covering his tracks after he'd made the 'mistake' of getting attached to senna#who fully believes he was in the shipwreck and is very dead)#so korra's heard all these (true!) stories of how cool the 22-y-o charismatic super waterbender noatak seemed to senna#meanwhile tarrlok discovers just who her father was and is like 'ok she's DEFINITELY getting the satomobile. but for different reasons')#the publishing au is actually incredibly involved (it's the bay area borgias fic as well!) but just focusing on juan and lucrezia#made it more possible to compress into a reasonably sized one-shot#in reality i wrote about the kids in school and how rodrigo bulldozed into their lives when their much older brother luis tragically died#vanozza is the second of his various ex-wives. also i included an adriana del milà expy even though it's very much borgias fic bc i love he#and yes she /is/ still the mother-in-law of the giulia expy :D#lucrezia ended up getting moved ahead a year from juan and joins cesare in befriending The New Kid#miguel aka micheletto - who thus is a high school friend of theirs and has complicated feelings about everything#but never forgot that teenage cesare and lucrezia stood by him when he was involuntarily outed in their school c. 2002.#lucrezia is the most obvious nepo baby of the company but actually fantastic at marketing while cesare is the creative one#but rodrigo has convinced himself that juan is the creative genius bc he(r) likes him(j) best and obviously has infallible judgment#but yeah it dovetails into the bay area au in which the alfonso d'aragona expy is lucrezia's boyfriend al from pleasanton#he doesn't like her living in the house her family owns outright in oakland for reasons he never manages to explain!)#political shenanigans and codependent siblings#avatar: the legend of korra

Gorgeous October thorn moth (Tetracis jubararia) I found while camping in Northern California a few months ago. These leaf mimics in the Geometridae family reach adulthood sometime in the fall (August - November depending on the locality), making their brown camouflage all the more clever. As a bonus, the serrated edges of their wings resemble the leaves of the live oak trees, which are common around here. Live oak picture, for your reference. Not brown, but you get the idea. They're evergreen, but shed old brown leaves fairly regularly, particularly in the fall.
